MACH Katiebird
When I remember Katie climbing out of the whelping box,
I have to wonder if she was practicing for the day she’d be a MACH!
Katiebird was born with a very special fire,
Her heart moved to the drumbeat of a burning desire.
Katie couldn’t go to an owner ordinary,
She needed the right person and along came Mary!
Together these two worked like a cog within a wheel,
While Mary taught Katie how to sit, fetch, and heel.
One day they found a fun sport of agility,
And Mary discovered Katie had amazing ability.
So they trained and then they trialed,
They made friends and laughed and smiled.
News spread and they earned fortune and fame (okay, fame),
And quickly added titles to the end of Katie’s name.
Mary bought a bigger van, an acre, and a home,
So Katie could have equipment and lots more space to roam.
Mary stared teaching some agility classes
Helping to spread agility to Idaho’s masses.
Katie and Mary continued their winning ways,
Earning MACH points and double Q’s on most of their forays.
Katie earned the most points of any in her breed,
While she and Mary went about feeding the need for speed,
These two worked together as a tight-knit team,
All the while pursuing a wonderful dream.
The double Q’s kept coming, one by one,
Until finally the 20th – the MACH is won!
The future looks as bright as it did right from the start,
For Mary and her black dog with the fire in her heart.
