Class Descriptions -
Puppy/Pet Dog Obedience - The purpose of this class is to help you raise a great family member. We will focus on your dog training skills (set your dog up for success, build observation skills, build reinforcement skills, build appropriate leadership skills, break learning down into small steps to facilitate learning). And we will focus on your dog’s basic skills (attention, offer behaviors, come, sit, down, stay, relax on a mat, develop self-control, walk nice on leash). A puppy class will focus on similar areas along with the basics of raising a youngster. The class will focus on the needs of the students.
Rally Obedience – This class will help you and your dog develop the skills to compete in rally obedience events. We will teach focus skills, build value for front and heel positions, teach heeling, teach the meaning of the rally signs as well as how to successfully complete them. Even if you don’t plan to compete, this is a great class for building a better partnership with your dog. For more advanced teams, this class will help you refine your rally skills and practice on higher level courses with distractions. We will work on ring confidence and prepare for competition. The fee is $140 for 6 lessons lasting 1 hour. Here's a video of Dani's first place in Rally Excellent with a score of 99 of 100 points in May 2013. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qgy_SSz0Rpw
Canine Good Citizen – This class is focused on helping you and your dog pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen certification. We will work on the skills needed to pass the test and if your dog is ready, the test will be administered on the last day of the class. This class will help you train your dog to be a well-mannered companion. The fee is $140 for 6 lessons lasting 1 hour. The test is an additional $10.
Trick Dog Class - In the trick dog class, we work on tricks that can be used for more advanced skill-building. We also work toward earning AKC Trick Dog titles. It is a fun class that is guaranteed to build your training skills while keeping your dog challenged. It is fun and we can take it is different directions depending on what kind of tricks you want to teach. Some tricks include; focus, chin, paw behaviors, your basic roll over, self control skills, and more including AKC Trick Dog skills; https://www.akc.org/sports/trick-dog/resources/trick-dog-applications/. I am an evaluator so you can earn the titles during the class. The cost is $140 for a 6 week class.
Rally FrEe - Rally FrEe is a sport that blends canine freestyle skill-building into a competitive format similar to rally obedience in that the team works thru a course with signs indicating the skills to be demonstrated. It is a super fun sport that strengthens the bond between dog and handler and can provide the opportunity to earn titles by competing at trial locations or by submitting videos for judging. The fee is $140 for 6 lessons lasting 1 hour. Here is a video of Jenny and Mary competing in Corvallis OR at the Dogs Gone Dancing Competition in Oct 2019 winning first place; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5OTrPjFYOk
Canine Freestyle – The Rally FrEe and Canine Freestyle classes are blended to suit the students in the class. This class teaches you and your dog to perform tricks and dance maneuvers to music. You can use these skills to provide short presentations or work toward competing in events. But most of all, it is a great class for building teamwork and having a lot of fun together. The fee is $140 for 6 lessons lasting 1 hour. Here is a video of Jenny and Mary dancing at the Dogs Gone Dancing competition in Corvallis OR in Oct 2019; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUMgp9UJqNE
Canine Scentwork – These classes teach your dog to search for specific scent when asked to do so. This sport engages your dog in something it already loves to do, sniffing. This is a fun sport for dogs and requires very little equipment. Dogs new to the sport will receive training on building the basic skills while more advanced dogs will do more challenging searches. The challenges include container searches, interior hides (inside the building), exterior hides (outside in the bushes, posts, poles, objects), and vehicle searches (outside of vehicles). This is a low cost, highly engaging sport for you and your dog. Here's a video of nose work with Nick and Mary - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhNvm6MMVaY . And here is a video of Jenny and me - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGJ4OVxIOvw .
Fit Dog - The purpose of the class is to provide you with training so that you can give your dog some safe physical activity. The benefits are increased physical abilities, decreased risk of injury, lowered stress levels, better sleep habits, and a healthier body and mind. Simple fitness exercises use the dog’s body and brain which can help reduce boredom and anxiety while we strengthen the dog’s body. My knowledge comes from fitness classes thru Bobbie Lyons Canine Campus, Fenzi Dog Sports Academy, and the AKC Fit Dog Class. My only certification is from the AKC Fit Dog Program but I have been learning about the topic for a number of years and especially now, during the pandemic. The class will be conducted using Zoom and it will be limited to 3 teams. The fee is $140 for 6 lessons lasting 1 hour. Your dog will be tired at the end of each class and you will learn good info while getting to interact safely with other dog lovers.
Agility – Your dog should be about 6 months old or older to start this class. This class is designed to help you and your dog establish a fun working relationship that will be essential to your later success on the agility course. We will build handler and obstacle focus, teach you and your dog basic agility handling skills and body awareness. Your dog will learn to use agility equipment while we will focus on building teamwork, drive, self-control, focus, and body awareness. You will stay in this class as you develop skills for later competition, or just for having fun. We will them work on skills and courses with a focus on distance handling and discrimination skills. We may train on courses from all venues offered locally (AKC, USDAA, NADAC). But the focus will be on skill-building for NADAC style competition. We will also work on specific skill-building exercises to help you strengthen your team. The fee is $140 for 6 lessons lasting 1 hour. Here's an agility video of NADAC Tunnelers of Mary and Dani: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9FNoVK7ZJs
